Active Transportation
Community Conditions and Safety
The Problem
Many Mahoning County residents do not have access to a personal automobile. These people rely on bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Even for people who do not require it, this infrastructure encourages a healthy, active lifestyle. To increase safe active transportation options, Mahoning County is installing more bike paths and sidewalks.
Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety
What it is
Well-maintained side walks and bike lanes or paths give people a safe way to travel around the city while on foot or on a bicycle
Mahoning County is working with the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments to track improvements and installation of this infrastructure.
What it does
Increasing the amount and quality of bike lanes and sidewalks makes the city more bikeable and walkable
This improves options for residents without cars and increases healthy, active transportation for all residents
Progress
Healthy Community Partnership’s Active Transportation Team is coordinating these strategies. For more information, visit their page.
GOAL: Expand active transportation safety.
