Access to Care
The Problem
Many Mahoning County residents do not receive recommended health care, especially preventative care. The Health Commissioners and Vibrant Valley are working with Mercy Health to identify needs and add new services in areas that lack access to health care services.
Mobile Clinic
What it is
Mercy Community Health will provide primary healthcare, including preventative screenings, to at-risk populations via the Mobile Medical Clinic.
The Mobile Clinic will be deployed on a rotating weekly schedule to five locations in the City of Youngstown and the surrounding area.
What it does
Two locations will be in primarily Black neighborhoods. Two locations will be in primarily Hispanic neighborhoods. One location will be at Full Spectrum Community Outreach.
These locations were selected to provide services to areas and residents that may lack other options for primary care.
Progress
GOAL MET! Staff and funding have been secured for the Mobile Medical Clinic.
GOAL IN PROGRESS: Mercy Health anticipates that this program will be launched in late 2024.
New Community Health Clinics
What they are
Mercy Health opened two new clinics in 2023.
The Family Nurturing Center opened at the Cornersburg Primary Care Clinic. The Belmont Medical Center also opened on the north side of Youngstown.
What they do
The Family Nurturing Center at the Cornersburg clinic provides family support programming, including Centering Pregnancy, 24/7 Dads, Resource Mothers, and Fatherhood Support.
The Belmont Medical Center is focused on behavioral health, including mental health and substance use. This clinic also hosts additional Centering Pregnancy programs, among other services.
Progress
Goal: Open a new clinic on the north side of Youngstown focused on behavioral health services.
